The HP CP6015 color printer series was released in the US in April 2008 as a replacement for the HP 8500 and 9500 printers. The HP CM6040 MFP appeared in the EU in February 2008, followed in the US by both the CM6030 and CM6040 MFPs in April 2008. Both are multi-function versions of the HP CP6015 printers.

All models ship with full yield toner cartridges and drum units (no introductory cartridges). The three series all use the same color cartridge and drum unit SKUs which are all interchangeable between machines. However, the HP CP6015 uses a different black cartridge SKU from that used by the CM6030 and CM6040, and it is not interchangeable between the printer and multifunction versions.

Neither the printer nor MFP versions will print without a chip or with a spent chip installed. Static Control offers replacement chips for use in both the drum and toner units for all models in the CP6015, CM6030 MFP and CM6040 MFP series.
